What is it with football stars and bad behavior? Firstly we had a controversy over a football player refusing to go on the field despite being instructed by the coach to warm up. Then we had a huge row over racism that was treated in a very casual manner by the authority in charge of football in the world. Next, we had an actual instance where a racist slur had been cast and the person who did this was banned for eight matches. This is something that you would not expect a parcel delivery boy to behave like, let alone a popular club level player.

This person then proceeded to ignore the outstretched hand of the person who had been at the receiving end of the racist taunt. At the end of the match, the criticism by the fans and critics forced the individual to apologize for his behavior. Now, the person who refused to take field despite being instructed by the coach has come out with justifications about why he behaved in such a manner. He has claimed that he was treated like a dog and that is the reason why he decided not to take the field.

He also said that it was an expression of discontent and unhappiness at the defensive approach of the coach. Well, all this is enough to prove that the overall state of football in the world is not a happy one. It is easy to point fingers at individual players but it is obvious that something is wrong with the system as a whole.

Had not been the case, things would not have gone from bad to worse in such a short period of time. Of course, we also enjoyed some fantastic matches in between but the overall feeling is that of disappointment and dissatisfaction at the manner in which the game of football is being played at the club level in the world today.

Cricket is one of the main sports in India. Even though hockey is the national game in India, it is an accepted fact that Cricket is far more popular than hockey. India is the country where cricketers are loved to the extent that they are sometimes called god and in some places even worshipped. The year 2011 was a glorious year for the Indian Cricket team as the team won the Cricket World Cup again after twenty eight years. Nothing better could have happened to the Indian cricket team or for the Indian cricket fans all around the world.

While the hype of the world cup win has been really high, the Indian team would be barely thinking about it as of now, when they are in Australia preparing for the Boxing Day test match. The Australian team has been one of the most dominating teams in the past decade and they will try everything possible to defeat India at home. I am sure the memories of the Boxing Day test match in 2003 where Australia was both defeated and humiliated in India, would still be haunting them. It is one thing to be champions but it’s entirely a different story when you are defeated while you are hailed as champions.

The match is scheduled to be played at the Melbourne Cricket Ground and a lot of hype has already been created by the media in both India and Australia. The good thing for the Indian Cricket team is that Indians are everywhere, so support is something the team will not be missing out in Australia. Will this game be a thriller; there is no doubt about that. Cricket fans all around that world are certain to be glued around their televisions or computers. Now parcels from same day courier service have two reasons to be delayed: one is Christmas and the other the mega cricket match. It does not matter whether you support Australia or India or none of them, but if you want to enjoy some aggressive and thrilling cricket, make sure you do not miss out on this game.

The only topic of conversation at the pub this weekend was the Rugby Union World Cup – and more specifically Wales'tragic exit from the competition at the hands of the French. It’s hardly surprising that our neighbours from across The Channel were seen as the villains for beating the plucky Welsh, but it didn’t help that they won in such controversial circumstances, beating one of the best Wales teams for many years. A Wales team that some people had even dared to believe might win the whole tournament.

However, it wasn’t the game itself that was being discussed or even the result, but one match-defining moment that occurred early in the game, when Wales captain and something of a talisman, Sam Warburton was sent off for a spear tackle on one of the French. For those of you who don’t know much about rugby, a spear challenge involves a player lifting an opponent off their feet, before planting them, firmly, head-first into the ground. Rather like throwing a very big, hairy, sweaty spear. They’re banned for several reasons, not least the fact that the game might be bankrupted by a spinal cord injury claim!

The controversial aspect of Warburton’s dismissal and Wales'subsequent defeat was that not all the experts agreed that it was actually a spear tackle. In fact, I have yet to see the incident discussed in the press without the use of quotation marks around the word “spear”. Every pundit, player, official and bloke down the pub seem to agree that Warburton was badly done to and that a period in the sin bin would have been a more appropriate punishment for his transgression. As it was, he was only on the pitch 18 minutes, has been banned for three weeks and, worst of all, has seen his beloved Wales tumble out of a World Cup they could have won. After all, they would only have had to beat hosts New Zealand in the final….

Those who follow motor sports and F1 racing have a wonderful opportunity to be a part of something historic. F1 racing will officially enter the second most populous nation in the world - India. October 30 is the race day for the Indian Grand Prix race. The racetrack has come up near the capital of the country and is considered to be one of the best tracks in the world as far as infrastructure and design is concerned.

Of course, what really matters is the quality of driving on the race day. However, the initial developments seem to be very positive. The sport is considered a niche attraction in the country. Cricket is the most popular sport in the country. This has led to a vicious cycle where cricket garners bulk of sponsorship which in turn helps reaffirm the status of the game.

However, there is a popular view that F1 racing may just be the thing to topple cricket off its perch. It has a huge following amongst the youngsters of the country. It has all the elements that appeals to the masses - speed, thrills, technique and lots of glamour.

It may take time but chances of corporate organizations shifting part of the sponsorship fund from cricket to F1 racing is considered to be very high. Of course, the average enthusiast is not bothered about the overall condition of the sport and is more interested in having a good race. Considering the close competition between the top drivers in the circuit and considering the presence of Michael Schumacher, one can only hope for a very grand race on October 30.

Those who love playing racing games on their gaming consoles using the latest R4 memory cards would do well to keep it aside for a while because Oct 30 is going to be the real thing in India.

The big news in American sports this weekend is Chicago Cubs'pitcher Carlos Zambrano being put on the “disqualified list” (a list which is, to put it lightly, seldom used). Zambrano will go 30 days without pay and without any involvement with the team after he lost his temper while pitching against the Atlanta Braves. Having given up five homeruns, the notoriously ill-tempered Zambrano threw a brush-back pitch up and in to Chipper Jones and was ejected from the game. He then cleaned out his locker and left the clubhouse immediately. In essence, he quit the team in anger.

Maybe this situation is best for everyone. After all, this isn’t the first time Zambrano has had these kinds of problems. Last season, he was forced to enroll in anger management classes after a conflict with a teammate. He has also had repeated altercations with umpires and opposing players. The anger problems stack on top of his physical health problems, which have also piled up over the years, and the fact that he’s pitching at an unimpressive 4.82 ERA so far this season.

Zambrano’s future is unknown. He’s made threats that he will retire, but he’s also due to earn 18 million dollars next year. Sure, he’s rich enough, but who walks away from 18 million dollars just because he can’t control his anger? (And who offers an 18 million dollar a year contract to a pitcher who so commonly creates as many problems as he solves?)

One thing I can say with confidence: if he does come back, I wouldn’t want to face him if things start going badly in a game — not without a good team of personal injury lawyers on my side. Because those fastballs are going to come closer and closer and harder and harder . . .

Will Roger Federer finally defeat Nadal at Wimbledon? He enjoys the best possible opportunity to defeat the Rowan Dartington of the world of tennis simply because Nadal is facing an injury scare.
He actually dropped a set in his previous match against Del Potro before coming back to win the match comfortably. Of course, Nadal is a player who becomes more dangerous when he is injured. However, will Federer be in a position to capitalize on this opportunity?
The battles between Federer and Nadal at Wimbledon has always seen Federer trying to dominate from the word go. However, Nadal has the ability to absorb all the pressure and act as a spring to throw it all back at his opponent. It is here that Federer faces his biggest test. He has shown a tendency to buckle down when the opponent fights back very strongly. Of course, it takes somebody with the talent and skill of Federer to put Federer under pressure. His fans would prefer a Federer vs Nadal classic final where the former beats the latter in a fair and square match. However, given a choice between a victory over an injured Nadal and yet another defeat, chances are high that the fans would opt for a victory.
This is, of course, presuming that both reach the final. Stranger things have happened in the world of tennis and even Wimbledon has seen high profile upsets where champions expected to meet in the finals were defeated in quarter or semifinals itself.

I was driving to my green diesel provider recent when I heard a sports item on the radio about the fastest man in the world, Usain Bolt of Jamaica.

Now Bolt in 2008 took the world by storm by breaking two individual and one relay record at the Olympic Games and then one year later broke two of those records at the World athletic championships.

So with the 2011 world Championships only months away Bolt says he is very hard at work in an effort to get back to if not surpass that form he had when he broke those world records.

Bolt will be opening his 2008 season on May 26 at the Diamond League meet in Rome and many are eagerly waiting to see what his form is. This is so because he was beaten by Tyson Gay in his last race and suffered with a back injury last year.

The late start to his season has been laid at the feet of not wanting to peak too early and have to do it again for the World Championships. The trick here is that Bolt, as defending champion over the 100 and 200 meters, does not have to qualify for the World Championships so many are concerned as to whether he will be ready.

Bolt will have some very serious challenge on his hand at the World Championships with Tyson Gay getting better and faster and a series of Bolts countrymen such as Asafa Powell and Yohan Blake, all looking for their own glory.

The world of football in the major European leagues has seen some fantastic signings enjoying a good first season in their respective clubs. I will not say who has been the best signing overall but will only give a bit of insight into exciting signings across domestic leagues. The player I will mention from German league is the veteran, Raul Gonzalez. Raul moved to Schalke after been deemed surplus to requirement at Real Madrid. His Goals in Europe has driven his current club to a first ever European Champions League semi-final place. A certain Mesut Ozil raised eye brows with scintillating performances during the FIFA World Cup in South Africa. He plays like he has some magic installed in his boots by the running shop. Ozil was snapped up by Real Madrid and he’s still wowing fans with ease and so much class.

In Italy, Napoli is having a shot at the title with big thanks to the goal haul of Uruguayan forward Edinson Cavani. No other player in the history of Napoli has scored so many goals a season in the domestic league. In the English Premier league, Javier Hernandez runs the show. A football commentator recently said: ‘this boy knows where the back of the net is’. Manchester United snapped him up from Guadalajara and arrived after a good world cup campaign. He does not only score but delivers when it is most important. So much has his performances surpassed his contribution that his gaffer, Sir Alex Ferguson said: ‘we have stolen him’. There are numerous other fantastic signings in Europe but the ones listed are my picks from their respective leagues.

The game of ice hockey is a thriller for the viewers as well. Two giants by way of teams if playing the match makes the match a thriller to watch and could be compared to the best of thrillers produced by Hollywood till date. The game involves the players decked out in heavy clothing which is more for protecting the player from the wrath of the opponent rather than being jewellery like adornments or for keeping the chill of the playing arena away. The game is rough and it is meant only for those who are tough, that includes the people who witness the game also.

The speed and finesse of the players would keep any spectator in enthralled daze. The clash of the titans would fall short in its depiction when one watches this game and notes the clash of players in reality on the ice out there in the middle of the rink. It is therefore a gory way maybe to spend an evening which otherwise would be termed as dull.

While there is a probability of a field hockey game or football turning to be a boring affair in some cases it cannot happen so in case of the game of Ice hockey. The brutality, finesse and the pace of the game never slackens. No goals are necessary to be scored to liven up the game. From the moment the whistle is blown to mark the beginning of a game till its end the time just flies and one sits engrossed in the action being played in the centre.

It is therefore a good idea to start watching this game in a group as we usually watch a game of football which has received high acclaim due to its popularity. There are a lot of TV channels also these days that dedicate themselves to featuring this game of Ice Hockey. It sure would be addictive if one were to tune in to one of these channels and watches the game for once.

If you are in Lebanon ad thing of surfing on the weekend instead of looking for cars for sale in Lebanon then a longboard may be your best shot especially if you are just starting out.

Surfing is an exhilarating experience, taming, briefly, ocean waves that are beautiful and savagely alive. Surfing can be intimidating, especially for beginners, but longboard surfing can ease that.

Longboard surfing is surfing using a longboard, which is usually eight to twelve feet long. These surfboards are also thicker and wider, making them more buoyant and stable. The longboard is appropriate for beginners because their size make it easier to ride and catch waves.

Type of waves dictates the surfboard used, and different boards “fit"into different waves. Longboards generally give a smoother, gliding ride than shortboards, and are best suited for long, gentle waves. Beginners like their stability and floatation, and experts like their ability to catch small waves. On days when waves are weak, a longboard is an excellent way to enjoy the surf regardless of experience.

Longboards are also great for heavier surfers due to the boards'size and stability. The longer length also enables tandem surfing, allowing more than one surfer on a board to enjoy smooth, gentle waves. Longboard surfing is also closer to traditional Hawaiian surfing.

Choosing the correct longboard is important, and depends on the surfer’s weight and height. As longboards tend to be more expensive, and their size make it difficult to transport and store, renting is an excellent low-commitment option.
